Gabriel Craig is a metalsmith, writer, and craft activist. His studio work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has appeared in several books and magazines. His performative use of craft engages diverse audiences in discussions about self-sufficiency, labor, consumption, and tradition. He has lectured throughout the country on his own artistic work, decorative arts history, and contemporary craft. Craig is the founder of conceptualmetalsmithing.com, a blog which publishes progressive essays about theory and reform advocacy in metalsmithing and craft. From 2009-10, he held a collaborative Artist-in-Residence position at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston, TX, with his partner, Amy Weiks. Currently he is an Artist-in-Residence in the Metals and Jewelry Department at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Craig received his BFA in Metals/ Jewelry from Western Michigan University and his MFA in Jewelry and Metalworking from Virginia Commonwealth University.
